ServicesRetirement Income Planning
Retirement Income Planning in Carrollton
We help you turn savings into income that arrives every month and keeps arriving. We compare annuity and policy options by what they cost you over twenty or thirty years, not just what they promise in year one, so your plan still works when you are 85.

Savings Are Not the Same as Income
A retirement account balance is a pile of money. Retirement income is a paycheck you cannot outlive. The gap between the two is where most plans break. Market drops in the first few years of withdrawals, known as sequence-of-returns risk, can drain an account faster than average returns suggest. Living longer than expected does the same thing more slowly.
To close that gap we use insurance products designed for the job. Fixed and fixed indexed annuities pay out on a contract schedule, a lifetime income rider locks in a withdrawal amount you keep for life, and permanent policies build cash value you can draw on. None of them comes free. You pay through a rider charge, a surrender period or a cap on growth, and we set each cost beside the income it buys so you can judge which trade-off still makes sense decades later.
Texas has no state income tax, which changes the math on Roth conversions and annuity withdrawals for clients in Carrollton, Coppell and Farmers Branch. We factor that in rather than borrowing a national rule of thumb.

What the Planning Covers
- 01
Income gap calculation
We add up your expected Social Security, any pension and other steady income, then subtract your monthly spending. The shortfall is the number every recommendation has to solve.
- 02
Social Security timing review
Each year you delay benefits past full retirement age, up to 70, raises your monthly check. We show how delaying changes how much your savings need to cover in the meantime.
- 03
Annuity comparison by total cost
We put fixed, fixed indexed and income annuities side by side. For each we list the surrender schedule, rider fees, crediting caps or participation rates, and the guaranteed payout, so you compare what you keep, not what is advertised.
- 04
Cash value policy review
If you already own whole life or universal life insurance, we check whether its cash value can supplement income through loans or withdrawals and what that does to the death benefit your beneficiary receives.
- 05
Required distribution planning
We map when required minimum distributions start on your pre-tax accounts and how they interact with annuity income, so a large forced withdrawal does not push you into a higher federal bracket.
Questions about Retirement Income Planning?
Call(972) 449-1955When an Income Plan Should Move Up Your List
Five years or fewer until you stop working
Withdrawals are close, so a market drop now has little room to recover before you start drawing on the account.
Your only plan is the 4 percent rule
That guideline assumes a specific portfolio mix and a 30-year horizon. It may not fit your spending, your health or a retirement that starts at 58.
You own an annuity you do not fully understand
Many people hold contracts with income riders they never activated or surrender periods that ended years ago. Both are worth knowing about before you make another move.
One spouse depends on the other's pension
If the pension stops or drops at the first death, the surviving spouse can lose a large share of income overnight. Joint-life options and life insurance can cover that gap.
You have left a job with a 401(k)
A rollover is a decision point. Where that money goes affects fees, withdrawal flexibility and whether any of it becomes guaranteed income.
How We Build Your Income Plan
- 1
An opening phone call
You tell us when you expect to stop working, what a typical month costs and which accounts and policies you hold today. Nothing needs to be gathered or signed yet.
- 2
Statements and the income gap
You share recent statements for retirement accounts, annuities and life insurance. We calculate your income gap year by year, including the years before and after Social Security starts.
- 3
Options compared in writing
We give you a written comparison of two to four approaches, each showing guaranteed income, fees, surrender terms and what remains for your beneficiaries. You can keep it and work through it on your own schedule.
- 4
Applications and annual check-ins
If you choose a product, we handle the application and transfer paperwork. After that we review the plan each year, because spending, health and interest rates all shift.
What Shapes the Cost of an Income Plan
Planning itself is a conversation, but the products that create income carry costs that compound over time. A rider that costs a small percentage a year can add up to a large sum across two decades. We show those costs plainly before you commit.
- Rider fees
- Guaranteed lifetime income riders charge an annual fee, usually figured on a benefit base rather than the account value. Over many years that fee meaningfully reduces growth.
- Surrender period length
- Longer surrender schedules often come with higher crediting rates or bonuses. The trade-off is that your money is harder to reach without penalty if plans change.
- Your age and health
- Income annuity payouts rise with the age you start. For permanent life insurance used alongside income, health class drives the premium.
- Interest rate environment
- Annuity payout rates and fixed crediting rates track current interest rates. Locking in when rates are higher can raise lifetime income.
Retirement Income Questions We Hear Often
Should every dollar I've saved go into an annuity?
We almost never recommend that. A common structure uses guaranteed income for fixed costs such as rent or a mortgage, groceries and insurance premiums, and keeps the rest invested or in cash you can reach. Where the line falls depends on your income gap and your comfort with market swings.
If I pass away a few years into an annuity, does my family get anything?
It comes down to the payout option chosen when income begins. With a life-only option, payments end with you and nothing passes on. A period-certain, cash refund or joint-life option keeps money going to a spouse or beneficiary. Each of those protections trims the monthly check, so we put both figures side by side in writing before you pick.
Can I use my whole life policy for retirement income?
Often, yes. You can borrow against or withdraw cash value, but loans accrue interest and both reduce the death benefit. If loans grow too large the policy can lapse, which may trigger taxes, so we model it carefully first.
How does this fit with my financial advisor?
We focus on the insurance side: annuities, riders and life insurance. If you have an advisor managing investments, we are glad to work alongside them so the guaranteed income and the portfolio support each other.
Is it too late if I am already retired?
Not at all. Many clients come to us after retiring, once they see how withdrawals actually behave. Income annuities can still be added, and existing policies can often be put to better use.
